Dragon Dance

The Dragon Dance is a symbol of China's culture, usually performed at New Year festivals. It’s believed to bring luck to communities. Like many artists, I'm drawn to subjects of dance, grace and movement, but I'm also inspired by the fact that the dragon is a creature of immense power, but that its power is balanced with benevolence, a rare combination. And here it is coupled with a thing of equal power- tradition, in this case, one that spans over 2,000 years. Traditions center us, they remind us of what matters, gives us a sense of belonging, connecting us to our roots and our bonds. This was created from a smattering of very old photos, so I had to guess at the colors, though I kept them to the traditional red and gold hues.

This vibrant painting captures both energy and spirit, the dynamic movement and bold yet soft colors evoke power and joy of celebration, inviting the viewer to experience all in its festive atmosphere. This is a large piece, meant to draw the viewer in, and will quickly become the focal point of any room or office. No one who enters the room will not be affected by it.
