About the Artist –
Austin Fine Artist Tony Sansevero
Austin-based artist Tony Sansevero has been working in one diverse field of art or another for most of his adult life. His first full-time art job was at 19, designing and building parade floats, then a detail artist for an art printing company, a 25 year career in commercial art, book illustration, portraiture and murals, but in all ways, art as a commodity.
With Covid came the stark reminder of life's impermanence, and with it, a need to create deeper and more personal work, motivated less by commercial success or financial need than by the love, exploration and creation of art as a spiritual journey.
‘I wanted to create something pure, work that did not bend to accommodate any desire, ideal or need but my own, what I felt my heart needed to express and communicate .’
This new-found freedom allowed him to combined his years of expertise in media such as watercolor and acrylics with new techniques and subjects- figurative work with elements of fantasy, symbolism, animals, landscapes, an exploration of the magic of humanity, the connections we make with others, the evolutions of the self, and those spiritual moments of the every-day that shape our souls.

Artist's Statement
When I’m inspired by a work of art, the artist’s education and résumé are unimportant. Lists of shows and awards mean nothing to me. Frankly, who the artist is has no bearing on how their work moves me—so you won’t find that here.
My art is deeply personal. It is a spiritual journey of emotion, honesty, discovery, and expression—a search for the magic that exists in this world. And please, dear viewer, never doubt that magic is real.
I know this because I’ve seen an elk charging across a snowy field at dusk, and a fox pup joyfully chasing a butterfly in the morning light. I’ve seen young faces enthralled by first love. I’ve felt the power of a lightning storm on a cliff’s edge, followed by a breathtaking sunrise. I have explored worlds within worlds and found my soul in a song. So, believe me when I tell you: magic exists.
It is a rare and elusive thing. It is often lost in a jungle of commercialization, self-interest, and skepticism, yet it exists for each of us—in perfect moments, in our ideas, our sacrifices, our compassion, our hope, and our growth.
This is what I seek in my art. Whether working in watercolor or acrylic, I may paint realistic subjects, but my goal is rarely to create an exact rendering of a place, person, or animal. To me, there would be no point in that. The temple that houses a thing matters less than the essence found within.
If I paint a portrait, it’s not the texture of a shirt’s fabric I seek, but a glimpse of the soul. A figure is about expression, emotion, and symbolism—never just aesthetics. A café scene might be set like a stage, inviting the viewer to find or lose themselves among the characters, while an animal appears not as one from a zoo, but as a creature from our dreams—recognizable, familiar, yet otherworldly.
Magic exists. It’s found in the human condition, in small moments with larger meanings. If you recognize some of your own story within the art I’ve created, nothing would thrill me more. That means I have reached my goal as an artist.

Visit the Studio
Visitors are always welcome, but under one condition, you don't feel pressured to buy. Of course if something sings to you, I'd love to give it a good home, but more so I'd like you to enjoy the experience. I enjoy meeting people who appreciate art in all it's forms. Browse through the art-filled rooms, or stroll through the Zen Garden, which is also filled with art and sculpture.
If you're lucky enough to visit during the month of October, you'll see my walk-though Halloween Haunted House, which I've created for the neighborhood and visitors since 2000.
I'm located in north central Austin. By appointment only.
