The Three Sisters

By my early 20's, I had immersed myself in stories from myth, and so my very first serious painting  was titled 'The Three Sisters'. What comes to most minds is the famous Greek legend of the Fates, but the Iroquois had similar stories, And the Oneida, the Abenaki, the Scandinavian Norns,  the Slavic Zorya, the Irish Morrigna. Mine were Goyan-like Polynesian women. So decades later when I wanted to return to some of my art roots, I recreated the theme, but this time as three African American women with a retro, vintage 70's feel. The same model was used for all three subjects.
