Portrait & Figurative Guidelines

Interested in commissioning a portrait or figurative work of art? Both are deeply personal and private commissions compared to other art works, so both come with strong guidelines and procedures. Please read these carefully and contact me for further information.

Basic Process
-Portraits can be done in Pencil, Pastel, Watercolor and acrylic and the fees change for each, with pencil being the least expensive.
-I can work from photo reference supplied by the Client or from photo reference taken by the Artist.

1. Working from Photo Reference
-I can work from photo reference, either one of your own or I can take one myself
-Each element will affect the fee. Working from the Clients reference is the least expensive.
-If you're local and can visit the studio, I can do a quick shoot. These usually take less than an hour.
-I can also set a shoot at a place convenient for you, but I will charge for travel.
-With both options, the Client must be chaperoned.

Privacy
Whether working from your own image or one I've taken, strict privacy and confidentiality will be adhered to at all times. All imagery will be kept strictly confidential.

Rights
If I take the reference, the Client will keep all Rights to them, Including all Copyrights. I keep no photos and no Rights to them. I keep no copy of the final work of art without permission. If Client allows permission for me to keep a copy of the created work for my portfolio, they will dictate how it will be used or seen. No imagery will be shown online without the Clients express written permission and use limitations.

2. Working from Life
I can work from life. This usually takes 3 sessions and a photo reference may still be needed to accurately account for pose and lighting.
-Since the sitting takes 3 sessions, it will affect the fee.
-Each session is about 1-2 hrs., with brakes generally every 20 minutes or to accommodate the needs of the Client.
-I can also set a session at my studio or at a place convenient for you, but I will charge for travel I have to do.
-Whether at my studio or place of the Clients choosing, the Client must be chaperoned at all times, for all 3 sessions.
-If working from life, I will try to make the experience as painless as possible, but the Client must be prepared for the experience, which can be grueling by most standards, even for professional models regardless of the physical shape of the subject.

Rights
the Client will keep all Rights to any Roughs or the Final Art, Including all Copyrights. I keep no copy of the final work of art without permission from the Client. If Client allows permission for me to keep a copy of the created work for my portfolio, they will dictate how it will be used or seen. No imagery will be shown online without the Clients express written permission and use limitations.

Privacy
Strict privacy and confidentiality will be adhered to at all times. All imagery will be kept strictly confidential.

Fee Structure
Fees range from $150 to $700 depending on the media and size, and there may be an additional fee for some media supplies such as canvas.
Fees are paid in a stage-payment plan. Half is paid when the commission is agreed upon, the remainder upon approval of the final work.

If you have any questions or would like to commission a work, please do not hesitate to contact me.
